In the last decade, a movement defining broader corporate responsibilities – for the environment, for local communities, for working conditions, and for ethical practices – has gathered momentum and taken hold. This new driving force is known as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). CSR is often also described as the corporate “triple bottom line” – the totality of the corporation’s financial, social, and environmental performance in conducting its business.

While there is no universal definition of corporate social responsibility, it generally refers to transparent business practices that are based on ethical values, compliance with legal requirements, and respect for people, communities, and the environment. Thus, beyond making profits, companies are responsible for the totality of their impact on people and the planet. “People” constitute the company’s stakeholders: its employees, customers, business partners, investors, suppliers and vendors, the government, and the community. Increasingly, stakeholders expect that companies should be more environmentally and socially responsible in conducting their business. In the business community, CSR is alternatively referred to as “corporate citizenship,” which essentially means that a company should be a “good neighbor” within its host community.

Unilever, one of the world’s leading suppliers of fast moving consumer goods across Foods, Home, and Personal Care categories, has showed the real case of care to the community through the establishment of the Unilever Indonesia Peduli Foundation (UPF) on November 27, 2000. Its stated aim is to become the “ultimate manifestation of its CSR commitment.” The establishment of the foundation is a significant step towards its aim to grow with society and the environment in a sustainable manner.

The foundation concentrates its efforts around four main programs namely:
 Small-Medium Enterprise (SME) Development Programs;
 Water Resource Preservation Programs;
 Recycling Programs and
 Public Health Education Programs (One of the main activities is conveying an educational messages about health consciousness all through Indonesian people. For example, the “Lifebuoy Berbagi Sehat” Program).

From some experts’ theories presented in this research paper, I do find that the CSR is not merely part of business acting within the society, but it is more than that. I consider CSR as an investment in addition to normal operating costs are decisions which are as individual as each business and will always be a reflection of the particular circumstances and context in which that business operates. In spite of that goodness of CSR, is it really proven if CSR can lift customers’ brand loyalty up to the product produced? For the reason of that, I am eager to know whether or not the Lifebuoy CSR program – Hand washing Campaign – has an impact toward customers’ brand loyalty. And if it has, how significance the impact is.

To find out the answers of the problem, I am about to apply some approaches. I then surely decide that explanatory or confirmatory method suits my analysis since this research paper’s aim is to measure the impact of Lifebuoy Corporate Social Responsibility program implementation toward customers’ brand loyalty. I then also use the interview and questionnaire techniques to gain some data and information from the target of population which is the people who live in both Panjang and Kedaton regencies, particularly who has already joined the “Lifebuoy Berbagi Sehat” Program in 2005. From both regencies, the sample then found about 85 respondents.

In this research, the data which is gained from the questionnaires spreaded to the respondents will be analyzed by using logic binary logistic regression, for this research paper is aim to find out the significance of CSR program (X1) toward customers’ loyalty (Y). The final result of the calculation shows that generally, hypothesis of this research paper, Lifebuoy CSR program has significant impact toward customers’ loyalty, is acceptable and statistically proven. It is shown from the result of Chi-square is 8,382 > Chi-square table 3,481, and sig number of 0,001 < 0,05, while from the partial test, the result of wald is 6,424 and sig is 0,011 < 0,05.

Lifebuoy CSR can be absolutely mentioned as the determination factor toward the changes of customers’ loyalty, though its impact merely found about 21,6%. From the model presented, it shows that if the independent variable doesn’t change, the constanta -9,759 then has a meaning that Loyalty improvement is 0 (zero); CSR (X) Independent Variable Coefficien is 0,883 and sig 0,004 means that if CSR (X) variable improves 1%, then Customers’ loyalty in Panjang and Kedaton Regencies have an improvement probability about 0,883.
